SculptraSculptra is a revolutionary, new, dermal filler made of poly-L-lactic acid, which is injected into the skin to fill in wrinkles and stimulate the production of collagen. It has been marketed under the name of NEW-FILL® in Europe, where it has been used since 1999 for wrinkles and face contouring with great success. How will Sculptra benefit me?Sometimes called the "liquid facelift", Sculptra fills in deeper wrinkles for a smoother, more youthful appearance. It is also the recommend treatment for facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) due to aging and disease, such as sunken cheeks and hollow eyes. Sculptra can also be used to improve aging hands. The effects can last up to two years, but may require occasional touchups. For optimal results, multiple treatments are advised initially. Because of the wide variety of new and effective wrinkle treatments, Dr. Ignatowicz may recommend alternate or complementary therapies for your specific needs. What are the risks of Sculptra injections? This filler is FDA approved and has been used safely around the world. Redness, swelling or itching can occur, but usually subsides in several days. Very rarely and usually after the very first treatment, tiny bumps can occur under the skin and be noticed when the area is pressed. You will experience only mild discomfort during the injection and Dr. Ignatowicz can apply an aesthetic cream to numb the area. Unlike collagen, there is no risk of allergic reaction. As with any injection, there is always the risk of infection.
