Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancement has become tremendously popular in recent years in both men and women and it is a fast and easy way to look and feel younger and more sensual. Dr. Ignatowicz recommends Restylane® or fat transfer for optimal results. The upper and/or lower lips can be treated to achieve the desired result.

How will lip enhancement benefit me?

If you have thin lips as a result of aging or heredity, lip enhancement can increase the size of the lips to make them fuller and more attractive. There are several accepted procedures for lip enhancement.

Restylane® is a clear gel filler that is injected in the lips with a fine needle to build volume. The results are immediate and although eventually the body safely absorbs the get, the effects can last six months or more.

For permanent results, Dr. Ignatowicz uses fat transfer. In this procedure, fat is removed from an area elsewhere on the body such as the hips or abdomen and injected as a filler to enhance lips or improve wrinkles, folds and depressions. Because the body's own fat is used, there is no risk of allergic reaction, unlike collagen, or rejection and the results are more natural looking. Fat transfer is performed under local anesthesia on an out patient basis. The procedure takes under two hours. This procedure is quite safe, relatively painless and highly effective. It can also be combined with gentle liposuction to contour the area where the fat is being removed from.

What are the risks of injections for lip enhancement?

Restylane® and other indictable fillers are safe, effective and you will experience only mild discomfort during the injection. Dr. Ignatowicz can apply an aesthetic cream to numb the area. After the injection, the area may be slightly red, swollen and/or bruised.

Fat transfer is a safe and widely used technique, but swelling and unevenness can occurring requiring additional treatment. Because the body's own fat is being injected, there is a chance of it being reabsorbed leading to semi-permanent results.

As with any injection, there is always the chance of infection.
